300E 6.0 AMG “Silver Hammer”

This silver Hammer was originally built for Hans Werner Aufrecht, founder of AMG. The car functioned as AMG’s official media car, participating in magazine road tests and high-profile events, resulting in several feature magazine covers between 1986-87.
The development of the AMG 4-valve Hammer engine began in 1982 with Mercedes-Benz’s 5.0-liter M117, which was progressively bored and stroked to 5.2 and later 5.4 liters. When Mercedes-Benz released the 5.6-liter M117, AMG seized the opportunity to push the limits—creating a 6.0-liter variant paired with AMG’s proprietary 4-valve cylinder heads. This combination gave the W124 E-Class unprecedented power, enabling it to surpass 300 km/h and earning its legendary nickname: the “Hammer.”
Drawing on original design documents, intimate knowledge of this specific Hammer, and decades of experience, RENNtech meticulously restored and repowered the car to its authentic AMG specifications. Every component was documented, and originality was verified against official AMG records.

The result: an engine producing 385 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque—exactly as it did when it set the 300 km/h record 37 years ago.
